For the price,I cant complain anything .works just like its name indicates. Btw,it has phonetic symbols
best dic work well with my ipod touch, carry with high capacities, love it.
Some bad moments
I was trying to update from version 2.3 to 3.0, but it was still the version 2.3 after updating. iTunes still reminds that theres one update available for this app after I did the update. I think they just put the wrong one for updating. Please check it out.
I cant read the definition because each paragraph overlaps.[1st generation iPhone with 2.1 firmware ]
The way I thought this was advertized it would be helpful for looking up chinese words. But it is worthless you can lookup english and it will give chinese characters but no pronuncation and no pinyin. Not worth the money!
I was looking for a Chinese dictionary to keep with me on the go, as I am learning Chinese (looking to move to Mainland). So, I was excited to see a Chinese-English dictionary with a cleaner interface than DianHua (a free alternative). However, I was sorely disappointed with this dictionary.
The interface is setup with a Main search and Advanced Search options. The Main search is what youd expect: enter a word, lookup the meaning. The advanced search has wildcard searches and anagram searches (rearranging letters to form words, in case you forget how to spell it/mess up the order of characters). These are pretty useful if I already know the character but forgot the order to put them in, something I do often in language study. Next, the Grammar book is a grammar guidebook built right into the dictionary! The only problem is that its for ENGLISH grammar. Bummer. This was a main feature that I wanted to buy the dictionary for, but I feel misled on now since its not for the target language I want to learn. The rest of the features are pretty self-explanatory. A favorites list, history list (of previous searches), and limited preferences having more to do with font display rather than any functionality.
The biggest disappointment for me was that the dictionary is entirely in traditional. Nobody in Mainland China uses traditional anymore, since simplified is much faster to write as is the de facto standard. Also, pinyin is not present in the program, unless you are searching by characters, which I enter in through a pinyin system anyways (lol). Well, thats not too helpful for me. Maybe it would work better for others, but this program is quite useless for me. I feel terrible since I wasted $5.
Although the author of the program may want to give himself a 5-star pat on the back (if your program is worth five stars, let the users decide, not yourself), I definitely do not find this dictionary useful. Maybe if I was fluent in Chinese and trying to learn English, this might be a helpful dictionary.
Bottom Line: If youre looking for a dictionary to just start learning simplified Chinese, this is not the dictionary for you.
This dictionary is not as good as what the author claims. It does not have sentence example following the word explanation. The voice pronunciation does not sound pleasant. I just waste $5 bucks on this dic.
I really need pinyin in order to fully be able to use this app.
